The split-second decision making the game requires will definitely have players hitting that quick restart option often. Dimensions plays like a dream, with every death resulting in me being more angry at myself than the game. Thankfully, the core game play is still intact. Also, unlocking new drones requires beating boss battles, so I was constantly replaying levels, not because I wanted a higher score, but because I needed the upgrades to progress. I am not great at Geometry Wars, but I was dying consistently by the first boss battle. Geometry Wars 3: Dimension is a fun twin-stick shooter that’s easy for anyone to pick up and play. Again, these are bold changes to the simple formula, but ones that don’t detract too much from the core mechanic that makes the series so addictive.Īdventure mode is packed full of levels and challenges, but it also borders on punishing at times. This also alters the game play in a way that makes sense for the new levels. In addition to the screen-clearing smart bomb, players now also earn a second special attack attached to the other trigger. Players can now add helper pieces to their ship that do things such as fire extra shots, or simply collect geoms (which are used as a score multiplier). Probably the biggest additions to this mode though are ship loadouts and upgrades. The enemies are an especially bright point in Geometry Wars 3, as they each have distinct patterns of behavior that are easy to learn thanks to their sharply distinctive visuals.Multiplayer: Offline co-op and competitive, online competitive While your ship's abilities are mostly limited to moving and shooting, the varied game rules and fantastic enemy diversity keep things fun for round after round. Its single screen challenge meant the field could be flooded with enemies in a matter of moments, and the sequel amped things up with additional game modes to. Plus, each level features its own leaderboard, making it essentially its own game type to conquer. New modes like Boss encounters might seem like odd additions initially, but once you play them you'll see just how comfortably they fit alongside Deadline and the like. The level designs and game types vary so widely that you get a great change of pace with each new stage you unlock, and the myriad of power-ups and weapons are satisfying to use.
